Gyro Caddy is pleased to announce that next Wednesday, August 12, 2015, we will launch a 30-day Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. A successful effort will fund the initial round of production of this convenient new travel accessory, which has the potential to change the way users travel with their coffee or favorite drink.

Gyro Caddy (patent pending) is an easy-to-use cup holder that allows travelers to go hands-free so they can carry other items and reduce spillage while moving. Gyro Caddy quickly hooks on to travel/carry-on luggage handles, upright airplane tray tables, and other modes of transportation. It collapses flat to a size less than 1-inch thick for convenient storage.

“While traveling through airports and getting my coffee as usual, I noticed it was extremely difficult to carry my drink, something to eat, and a recently purchased magazine all at the same time — especially while rushing to catch my flight. I noticed many other travelers had this same problem,” says Gyro Caddy inventor Don Berg, a retired engineer and teacher. “One lady even spilled her coffee on the floor because she couldn’t handle dealing with all of this simultaneously.”

Gyro Caddy uses a set of gimbaled, rotating rings with an outer handle (or optional brackets) such that the drink’s center of gravity ‘forces’ it to stay upright, independent of the motion of the device to which it’s attached or the remaining volume of the drink.

“Applying some basic physics to each problem with one device became apparent. A gravity-driven, gimbaled set of two axes would keep the drink level. Then a simple, adaptable, and secure ‘clasp’ was necessary to attach the device to the handles of the luggage,” adds Berg.

Gyro Caddy will sell at retail for $14.99, but Kickstarter backers will have the opportunity to pre-purchase one or more units for the special introductory price of $12 each (discounted for more). Kickstarter campaigns operate under an “all-or-nothing” funding model, so if Gyro Caddy doesn’t reach it’s goal at the end of 30 days, then it will potentially be a much longer wait until it’s available.

Berg and the Gyro Caddy Team are asking interested parties to follow their project on Twitter (@GyroCaddy) and Facebook and spread the word to their favorite social media networks.
